The weather was clear and dry. The status of
the Elk Creek Mine is "active"however no coal is being mined and the only activity since the last inspection was
site maintenance.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS—Rule 5.02.4(1):
Records were available in the mine office. Details are given at the end of this report.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Snow-melt run-off had begun and Elk Creek was running well. The reconstructed segments of the stream
channel appeared to be in good shape,with no evidence of any large boulders shifting or being undercut. The
concrete lined area leading to the inlet of the first culvert segment was holding up well, and it appeared that the
entire stream flow was being successfully diverted through the culvert.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
No methane was being burnt at the facilities at the south end of the Elk Creek facilities area,however it
was expected that operations would resume soon.
Oxbow had agreed the sale of the substation from the upper facilities pad,but the equipment had not yet
been removed.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
N/A
OTHER(SPECIFY)
N/A
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 2 of 8
