Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am writing to express my strong objections to the proposed Leadville Mill project. As a concerned member of
the community, I have serious concerns about the potential environmental, social, and economic impacts of this
project. I believe in responsible industrial development and smart environmental stewardship in our community.
The Mill project reflects neither one. I urge the Department of Resources and Mines(DRMS)to reconsider the
approval of the Leadville Mill project based on the following objections:
1 Environmental Impact:The proposed Leadville Mill project raises significant environmental concerns. The
project site is located in a sensitive ecological area with rich biodiversity, including endangered species. The
potential impacts on air quality, water quality, and soil erosion due to the project's operations and waste
disposal need to be thoroughly assessed and mitigated to protect the local environment.
2 Water Usage:The Leadville Mill project is expected to consume a significant amount of water for its
operations, including ore processing and dust suppression.Given the and climate and limited water resources
in the region, this could result in undue stress on the local water supply, potentially impacting agriculture,
livestock, and local communities that rely on the same water sources.
3 Social Impacts:The Leadville Mill project may have adverse social impacts on the local community. The
construction and operational phases may strain local infrastructure and services, such as housing, healthcare,
and transportation.Additionally, the project may disrupt traditional land use practices and cultural heritage of
our outdoor recreation community, which should be properly recognized and addressed.
4 Economic Sustainability:The long-term economic sustainability of the Leadville Mill project needs to be
carefully evaluated. The project's economic benefits, such as job creation and tax revenue, should be balanced
against the potential risks, including the potential for boom-and-bust cycles associated with mining operations.
There should be a robust plan in place to support the local economy beyond the project's Iifespan and ensure
the community's long-term prosperity.
5 Community Engagement and Consultation:There are concerns about the lack of meaningful community
engagement and consultation in the Leadville Mill project. Local stakeholders, including residents, businesses,
and indigenous communities, should have a genuine opportunity to provide input, express concerns, and
participate in decision-making processes related to the project. Proper consultation and engagement are
essential for building trust and ensuring that the project respects the rights and aspirations of the local
community.
Based on the aforementioned objections, I urge the DRMS to thoroughly assess the Leadville Mill project's
potential impacts on the environment, water resources, social well-being,and economic sustainability of the
local community. I also request that the DRMS ensures robust community engagement and consultation in the
decision-making process and takes into consideration the concerns raised by the community.Thank you for
considering my objections. I look forw
and to your prompt and thorough review of this matter.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M199057
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
County
Lake
Enter one county only
Site Name
Perm ittee/Operator Name
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
