Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative
We should not be using harmful chemicals to further profit from destruction of our natural spaces. These spaces
are what make our home, keep us healthy and we should be seeking the least damaging way to care for and
restore our enviornment for current and future livability.
We object to the proposed permit application M1990057 to use a toxic sodium cyanide solution to reprocess
materials on site due to the risk of continued contamination of the Arkansas River downstream of the Leadville
Mill to points south such as Twin Lakes, Balltown,Granite, Buena Vista, and Salida.
Additionally, operation of this type of facility will entice the import and haul trucking of OTHER tailing piles from
outside of Lake County to the Leadville Mill leading to increased haul truck traffic in and around town and
further increasing the short and long term risk of harmful contamination to the Arkansas River. A better
alternative to be explored is to establish a world-class remediation facility within the safe confines of the already
operating Climax mine and utilize the Leadville,Colorado&Southern railroad line for transport of the materials
to that location(or as close as possible before utilizing haul trucks). If that is not feasible, then establish a
remediation facility outside of the Arkansas River watershed.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M1990057
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
County*
Lake County
Enter one county only
