Valent soils <br /> are on upland dune topography. Slopes range from 0 to 60 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 41 <br /> centimeters (16 inches) and the mean annual temperature is about 10 degrees C. (50 degrees F.) <br /> TAXONOMIC CLASS: Mixed, mesic Ustic Torripsamments <br /> TYPICAL PEDON: Valent sand, grassland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.) <br /> A--O to 10 centimeters (0 to 4 inches); grayish brown(1 OYR 5/2) sand, dark grayish brown(1 OYR 4/2) moist; <br /> single grain; loose;neutral (pH 7.2); gradual smooth boundary. (8 to 25 centimeters (3 to 10 inches) thick) <br /> C--10 to 152 centimeters (4 to 60 inches); pale brown (I OYR 6/3) fine sand, brown (I OYR 5/3)moist; single <br /> grain; loose; neutral(pH 7.2). <br /> TYPE LOCATION: Washington County, Colorado; 245 meters (805 feet) east and 579 meters (1,900 feet) <br /> south of the NW corner of Sec. 5, T. 1 S., R. 49 W. <br /> RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: <br /> Mean annual soil temperature: 8 to 14 degrees C. (47 to 58 degrees F.) <br /> Mean summer soil temperature: 15 to 26 degrees C.
