Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
ACTIVE MINE BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
Permit Information
Permit Number Operator Name Mine Name
P-1981-030 Converse Ward Davis Dixon, Grand Union/Montag
Inc.
Type of Mine: NOI Commodity Mined- Gold
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS
The Grand Union/Montag operation is located on private property five miles west of the Town of Como in Park
County, Colorado. The Notice of Intent (NOI) to prospect was issued to Converse Ward Davis Dixon, Inc. in
1981. In 2003, the NOI was revoked and the bond money was forfeited.
The NOI file describes a number of trenches to be constructed on site 700 to 1,000 feet long, 3-10 feet wide and
0-30 feet deep. As the trench was constructed, bulk sampling took place followed by backfilling of the trench to
natural contour and revegetation. The Division inspected the site in 2010 and again in 2011 accompanied by the
property caretakers Van and Laura. Numerous trenches and pits were noted on site that were not reclaimed by
the prospector. Trenches on the south facing slope (six in total) contain vegetation that naturally established
over the years. On the north-facing slope, trenches (four in total) were very deep and contained little to no
vegetation.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION
Type of Bid Documented Quote Purchase Order
(circle one) Invi - . . to.
PO Number: Contractor Name &Address: Construction Purchase Order Amount -
PKA-12-1227 Dates: $12,950.00
Berry Trucking and Change Order Amount- $3,000.00
Excavating, Inc. Construction
began on October 1, 2012. Due to the limited bond money and existing vegetation in some of the trenches, the
Division combined a number of techniques to reclaim the site. The largest trench (Trench #1) was backfilled and
graded to 3H:1V slopes where possible. The slope was roughened to create gouges in the cut slope using the
track excavator. Three pits above the ponds were backfilled with the excavator and left in a rough state. Four of
the large trenches and terminal piles on the north facing slope were only revegetated. All disturbed areas noted
above were revegetated with the subalpine seed mixture, applied Biosol Plus (7-2-1) at a rate of 800 lbs/acre and
mulched. A change order was issued to include revegetation of additional trenches on the north-facing slope.
Remaining Reclamation Requirements and Estimated Cost:
None at this time.
(/149
Project Mana r Senior Proj'ct Mr-er
?i'a zD) - i w"6
Date I Date
1
