I
Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
Introduction: (Insert Narrative Paragraph or Other Text Here)
Permit Information
Permit Number Operator Name Mine Name
M-1984-121 Woodbridge Corporation Bessie G.
Type of Mine- underground hard rock Commodity Mined -gold
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS
2002 Bond Forfeiture Project
The Bessie G Mine was partially reclaimed in 2002 for a total cost of$16,574.00. All work in 2002 was completed on the
Columbus Basin side of the mine workings. In 2002, structures and wooden debris, car bodies, and two large tanks were
disposed of by salvaging, hauling to the dump and burial on site. The Bessie G portal in Columbus Basin was also closed
with a six foot(6') diameter corrugated steel pipe closure set in PUF and native rock bulkhead with locking door and the road
to the site was gated and locked. The road into the site was roughened and some of the slopes were pulled back to original
contour.
Continued Reclamation Needs in 2013
The eastern side of the Bessie G Mine, located through the notch on the eastern side of the La Platas was only partially
safeguarded. The main Bessie G portal on the eastern side had a gate located 30 feet(30') inside the portal structure at the
bedrock contact. The outer portion of the opening is timbered and failing due to repeated avalanches and lack of
maintenance for many years. The first 30 feet of the opening was the most dangerous because the talus had started to
cave through the timber sets. In addition, there also remained two other openings on a higher level, one stope and one adit.
All of the mine openings are in continued use by the landowner and needed to remain accessible.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION
The 2013 Bessie G Bond Forfeiture Project closed the 3 mine openings on the eastern side of the Bessie G mine workings,
through the notch. The project was competitively bid out to RMC Consultants, High Country Equipment, The 517 Company,
and MKX. All bids were above$25,000.00, but the lowest bid was from The 517 Company. The project scope of work was
modified and negotiated with The 517 Company to$24,859.00. Mine site#1 was the main Bessie G portal on the eastern
side and was closed with a corrugated steel pipe set in a bulkhead with a door, bat slot, and a drain pipe. Mine site#2 is an
upper level adit that was closed by hand backfilling. Hand backfilling was selected for#2 because the#3 stope was a
collapse into the#2 workings which effectively cut the adit off from air circulation. The#3 stope was grated with a door and
a bat slot to provide additional access and tertiary escapeway for the mine. Access to the sites was via ATV and trucks
driving through the notch, and hand repairing the road in spots were large talus was blocking the road.
Type of Bid Documented Quote
Bid as the Bessie G Bond Forfeiture Project
PO Number Contractor Name &Address Construction Bond Amount
OE-14-021 The 517 Company Dates $ 0
PO Box 491 Start:
Kamas, UT 84036 10/7/2013
PO Date End: Project Cost
10/9/2013 $24,859.00
