Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
ACTIVE MINE BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
Permit Information
Permit Number Operator Name Mine Name
M-1985-157 Anderson Construction Stewart Pit
Type of Mine: 111- Surface Commodity Mined- Sand and Gravel
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS
The Steward Pit is located on private property owned by the Nature Conservancy. The site is one mile south of
the Sand Dunes National Park in Alamosa County, Colorado. The 111 mine permit was issued in 1985 for a
sand and gravel operation consisting of two gravel pits. In 1989, the permit was revoked and the bond money
was forfeited. The Division reclaimed the site in 1993 by reducing pit slopes to 4H:1V, replacing topsoil and
reseeding. Remaining bond money was purposely held to ensure that successful revegetation could be
achieved.
The Division inspected the site in 2011 and determined that areas of the pit required additional revegetation
efforts. The Division worked closely with the Nature Conservancy to formulate an all-native seed mixture to be
used on site.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION
Type of Bid Documented Quote e Order
(circle one) Invitation for Bid Direct Bill
PO Number: Contractor Name & Address: Construction Direct Bill Amount - $854.68
Direct Bill Dates: Seed/Broadcast Purchase- $572.32
Berry Trucking and
Excavating, Inc.
