Salapich Pit <br /> Type of Mine — Surface Commodity Mined- Sand & Gravel <br /> PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS <br /> The Salapich Pit is located on private property 3 miles west of Gulnare in Las Animas County, Colorado. The <br /> sand and gravel permit was issued in 1991 for 1.5 acres. The permit was revoked and the bond forfeited in <br /> 2009. Only a portion of the bond money could be recovered in the amount of $5,000.00. The second bond in <br /> the form of a Letter of Credit for $3,750.00 was not honored by Bank of America. <br /> The gravel pit is approximately 1.3 acre in size. The pit excavation ranges in depth from approximately five feet <br /> to twenty feet. Highwalls are present on the east end of the gravel pit and the northwest side of the pit. Three <br /> small stockpiles are located in the bottom of the pit. The <br /> three piles of rock and soil in the bottom of the pit were pushed towards the northwest highwall. The highwall <br /> was then reduced back to a 3H:1V slope, and topsoil was used to cover the graded slope. The bottom of the pit <br /> was graded and scarified. The site was revegetated, fertilized and mulched. The bottom of the pit was drill <br /> seeded and the 3H:1V slope was hand broadcast seeded.
