During project construction, it was determined that there wasn't enough material at the lower entry to complete the backfill
as designed and that there wasn't enough room on the access road to rip the road at 30 degrees as specified. Alternative
options were designed and approved by the GMUG Ranger District and reclamation activities continued. During this time,
the travel trailer and metallic debris were removed from the historic site, hauled out and disposed of in a licensed landfill.
The backfill of the large cut and regrading of the mine dump at the lower entry was completed and ready for inspection on
September 24.
That same afternoon, snow arrived at the project site, covering rocks and creating unsafe working conditions. Reclamation
activities above tree line were suspended until the snow melted and operations could resume safely. Snowy conditions
persisted until October 6, only allowing intermittent work during this time. Due to the weather delays encountered, the
DRMS Project Manager petitioned the GMUG Ranger District for a seven(7)day extension to complete the reclamation
work as specified. The request was granted and construction resumed again on October 7. Additional crews were brought
in and the project concluded with the remainder of the access road being reclaimed at about noon on October 11.
All reclaimed areas, approximately seven(7)acres total, were broadcast seeded, fertilized and mulched. The seed mix was
specified in the USFS Decision Memo and was purchased from Pawnee Buttes Seed, Inc.
Change Orders:
Two Change Orders were issued for this project, resulting in a net increase of$5,732.00 to the contract price. The details of
the Change Orders are listed below.
CO-1: Increase quantity of water bars from twenty five(25)to forty(40). USFS requested additional water bars be
constructed along access road. ($1,086 increase)
CO-2: Additional equipment and labor costs incurred due to weather delays extending project beyond the original 30 day
completion time. ($4,646 increase)
Remaining Reclamation Requirements and Estimated Cost:
All goals listed in the project were completed as specified. However, the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison
(GMUG) National Forest has remaining funds for additional reclamation activities at the Enterprise Mine Site. A site
assessment will be conducted in the summer of 2010 to determine the success of the project and possible additional
reclamation strategies.
I _
14M211— 3)
Project Manager Senior Project Manager
/ Zo•// /-
Date Date
2) 4)
Grants Officer a)AMLIS(Deb)/b)BrassCap(Yvonne;then to Kristin for filing)
Date Date
Asof051409
