Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
Introduction: The Sherman Mine had been inactive since 1985 and abandoned for at least 17 years. The mine buildings were
either collapsed or in complete disrepair. The site was experiencing severe erosion and other environmental hazards and the
overall site is considered dangerous and unsafe. CDRMS recalculated the bond and Leadville Corporation, Inc. was unable to
post the required bond. Both US BLM and Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board (CMLRB) found Leadville Corporation, Inc.
in violation of the requirements of their permit, and the CMLRB terminated the permit and the bond was forfeit.
Permit Information
Permit Number: Operator Name: Mine Name: Sherman Mine
M1977-249 Leadville Corporation
Type of Mine— Underground Hardrock 112 Permit Commodity Mined: Lead and Silver
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS: Decaying mine site, with buildings in various stages of falling down.
Transformers, powerline, boiler with asbestos, ice plug in portal, mine dump erosion.
