Redwing Lode
•
Type of Mine-Underground Commodity Mined-Gold/Silver
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS-The mine site, which dates from 1890,was used by Colorado Development Corp.for
promoting a stock scam. The waste dump associated with the main shaft had been moved around into many small piles for
photographic purposes, and water draining from the shaft was flowing over and eroding various portions of the dump. Waste dumps
associated with two adits had also been disturbed, with some waste material ending up in the creek. Portions of the creek channel
had also been disturbed and the creek was not in its original channel. Mining derbis, including a pickup truck, was strewn around the
main shaft and around two man made ponds near the creek. A road had been cut up the east face of the main waste dump and the
resulting erosion had deposited considerable material in the creek, much of which had already been washed downstream.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION
Type of Bid Documented Quote
(circle one) Formal - Bid as the Georgia Pass Project,PICA-8-399
PO Number Contractor Name&Address Construction Dates Bond Amount
Dirt-N-Iron Start:9-21-1997 $5600.00
1685 17 Road
Loma,Colo.81524
PO Date End:9-25-1997 Project Cost
$9344.00
Construction Work Description-To maximize use of the bond money,AML funds were used to safeguard the eligible pre-law features
,namely the shaft andtwo adits. The main shaft was safeguarded by constructing a grate with a spread footer;the adit near the creek
was backfilled;and a bulkhead with a suitable drain was constructed in the draining adit. A large portion of the waste clump in the
creek was removed and incorporated into the main waste dump from the shaft. The main dump was consolidated slightlywest of the
creek and re-graded to minimize erosion. A ditch was constructed to divert drainage from the shaft around thewas-te dump. Derbis
was removed from the creek and the channel returned to its approximate original position. The two man-made ponds were not
disturbed at the request of the U.S.F.S. All mining related trash including the pickup truck were removed from the site. All-disturbed
areas were seeded and mulched after regrading. The road on the dump and leading into the site were removed and large boulders
placed across the entrance to the site.
Remaining Reclamation Requirements and Estimated Cost-- None
