IV. Construction Summary and Narrative <br /> The Tungsten Mine Road Bond Forfeiture site was brought to the attention of DRMS by BLM. <br /> The BLM wanted to reclaim the site because of the unsightly trash at the mill site and because <br /> of the erosion occurring on the road up to the quarry. Increased recreational use of the quarry <br /> road was a concern of the BLM's recreation group. The powder magazine near the quarry site <br /> was also a concern. Because the powder magazine was left locked it was assumed that there <br /> might be explosives left inside. Kessler Reclamation was awarded the reclamation contract <br /> because of their experience with earth moving and demolition projects and their proximity to the <br /> project area. <br /> Work on the project began in December of 2006 and continued through April 2007. The project <br /> experienced many weather delays due to large amounts of snow, followed by muddy conditions. <br /> The mill site area work was performed first. The metal-sided building was torn down and all <br /> recyclable metal was removed from the site via a flat bed semi-trailer. The recyclable metal was <br /> salvaged by Kessler Reclamation as part of their compensation for reclamation work. Other <br /> debris was hauled off to an approved county landfill. The original bid document's scope of work <br /> was trash removal, burial of the concrete building foundation, and revegetation of the mill site. <br /> A change order was issued by DRMS to increase the scope of work at the mill site. The <br /> additional work included reduction of two 8-10ft high walls of colluvial materials, covering the <br /> tungsten bearing mine waste piles with growth medium, re-establishing drainages, re-grading <br /> the slope to original contour, and mulching and revegetating 3 acres. The total amount of the <br /> change order was for $11,000.00, which are more than half the original bid amount of <br /> $13,000.00. <br /> The % mile long quarry road work was performed second. The entire road was reclaimed to the <br /> extent necessary. Areas of extreme erosion were pulled up to original contour, and other areas <br /> of the road were left "as is" with the addition of water bars or drainage paths. The portion of the <br /> road near Road Gulch was reclaimed into a ridge, making it impassible by 4WD vehicles and <br /> ATV's. <br /> The powder magazine near the quarry was unlocked and no explosives were found inside. The <br /> powder magazine was salvaged by Kessler Reclamation as part of their compensation for <br /> performing the reclamation work. <br />
