Mining began in 1987 and continued for one
to two years before operations ceased. The financial warranty held by the Division for reclamation was$2,000.00. In
1999, the Division revoked the permit and forfeited the bond for failure to post an adequate financial warranty.
$1,811.91 was deposited in the construction forfeit account for reclamation.
The mine adit was located on a steep, grassy hillside. Disturbance at the site included a mine bench, a large
mine dump below the bench, a short access road to the portal, the portal, and a small upper bench. The portal
had been timbered and fitted with a locking iron door. The portal was originally 15 feet wide and 10 feet high.
By 1999, it had collapsed leaving large blocks of fractured, loose rock exposed 20 feet above the original mine
floor. The collapse buried the locking access door but people were able to enter the mine through the opening
above the collapse debris. The mine was visible and readily accessible form the Shelf road. Local residents
reported that trespassers were frequently seen in the mine.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION
Type of Bid Documented Quote
(circle one) Formal - Bid as the Project, PKA-
PO Number Contractor Name &Address Construction Bond Amount
Conley Construction Dates $ 1,811.91
P.
