Excavated Pit Slope Inspection Plan
For the steeper mine slopes of 33.7 degrees, the operator must do the following:
1)Constantly observe(daily)for any sign of instability, including visual cracks, slips, dribbling of
material, mud zones, gravel zones without cementing fines, slips, or any other signs of instability.
If any are found, the operator must either lessen the slope to eliminate the visual problem or call a
professional engineer experienced in slope stability to evaluate the issue and determine a solution
2)Benching may be required on slopes with a vertical height greater than 60 feet if any signs of instability
are observed. See signs of instability in 1 above. The bench should have a horizontal distance of 10
feet minimum. If the operator is unsure if a bench is needed,it should either be installed or must call
a professional engineer to evaluate the need for the bench
3)All MSHA rules and regulations must be followed. If any MSHA inspection requires different measures
other than those described herein, they must be followed.
4)If any material collapses into the safety bench, the last working bench,or the pit bottom that was
unexpected and greater than 1 cubic yard, this event will be reported to an experienced professional
engineer, who will evaluate the cause and determine if changes to the excavation plan are required.
Gloria Z Mine 2013 Amendment 83
