GEOTECHNICAL STABILITY EXHIBIT
There are no buildings or other man-made structures that could be affected by any geotechnical stability
issues at the Gloria Z mine. The structures cited in Exhibit S are well away from the excavation area
and no failure is possible that could affect these structures due to distance from the excavation and
the cemented nature of the in situ gravel.
This conclusion is based on the following information:
1)Greg Lewicki,P.E.,who has 33 years of slope stability experience in Colorado, conducted an inspection
of the current placer pit on October 12,2012. The highwalls were observed carefully. It was noticed
that a significant amount of natural cementing has occurred in the gravel, giving it high strength, even
in steep walls,as shown in the 2 photographs of Section 4 of Exhibit D. A large track hoe needs to
provide significant breakout force to excavate the material.
2)Mr.Lewicki also has inspected the pre-law highwalls in the same gravel at the Alma Placer Mine,
approximately 2 miles north of this site. These near vertical highwalls are in the same Quaternary
gravels of this site and have been in place for approximately 150 years with no signs of instability
at all.
3)The near vertical wall immediately south of the Infiltration Pond shows no sign of instability.
4)No highwall at this site will be present for any extended period of time(over two years)since the
pit will constantly be moving and backfilling behind the active work area.Although it is not necessary,
the operator commits to backfilling any mine slopes to 3H:1 V if they are not backfilled from the mining
operation in that 2 year period. The highwall south of the infiltration pond will require slightly more
time to backfill due to its size. Approximately 4 years are needed to allow for this backfilling. No
work will be occurring at the base of this highwall since it will be filled with fines from the placer
operation.
Gloria Z Mine 2013 Amendment 79
