Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
J and S Farms Bond Forfeiture Project(M-1996-053)
Introduction:
Permit Information
DRMS Permit Nos. Operator Name Mine Names
(M-1996-053)
Carder Inc. J and S Farms
Type of Mine -Gravel Commodity Mined- Aggregate
Pre-Reclamation Site Conditions
The J&S Farms Pit (M-1996-053) is in western Prowers County approximately 1450 feet north of the Arkansas
River on the east side of Highway 50 in the town of Lamar. Access to the site is from 7350 Highway 50, at the
office of Semco Electric Motors.
The J&S Farms site encompasses approximately 80 acres of rangeland that was disturbed during a gravel mining
operation. Approximately 28 acres of the site is a groundwater exposed pond. The shoreline of the ponds was eroded
creating almost vertical highwalls around the southern and eastern shoreline of the ponds. The reclamation work
involved: 1)grading the southern and southeastern shoreline of the pond to a 3H:1V slope,2)seeding approximately
8 acres with a custom seed mix.
Bidding/Construction Information
Butte Valley Construction was shown the site on September 6 h, 2022 in order to obtain a bid for reclamation
work. The bid was considered fair and reasonable and the purchase order for construction was issued on
8/18/2022. Construction began on 9/6/2022. A separate purchase order in the amount of$2,338.24 was issued on
to Granite Seed Company for purchase of the custom seed mix on 8/24/2022.
Type of Bid Discretionary Purchase
Project Number Contractor Name & Construction Funding
2023-3516 Address Dates Bond:
Butte Valle Construction $45,638.24
Y Start: 9/6/2022
P.O. The highwalls were approximately six to ten (6-10) feet above the groundwater elevation, and
approximately three thousand feet (3,000) in length. (See attached map).
Highwall elimination started approximately fifteen feet back from the edge of the pond. Material was cut to achieve
an overall slope of 3H:1V. The cut material was placed directly into the pond as fill to achieve the specified grade.
It is estimated that approximately five thousand three hundred cubic yards (5,300 yd3) of material was cut to
eliminate the highwalls.
As of05/14/09
