Cultural Resource Review and Reconnaissance Survey for the Fairmeadows RV Storage and Gravel Mining Pit
Project, Greeley, Weld County, Colorado
has an end-gabled shed added on its east end.The outbuilding appears to have been converted to a two-
bay garage, with the bay doors(currently off the building)made of plywood.Based on vertical siding
placed between the two bays, this west end of the outbuilding may have been entirely open on the front
(south side)before renovations in recent years. The attached shed has a separate two-door entry set on the
west end of its south side.A nine-lite window is adjacent to the entry and centered in the south facade of
the shed. The east end of the shed has been reclad and repaired recently. The roof has also recently been
reclad with brown asphalt shingles matching those of the house. The roof of the shed is asymmetrical, and
more sloped at the rear(north side)of the building.Unlike the adjacent house, the shed and garage have
exposed rafters at the eaves.
V
is
Wylu
Figure 28. Site 5WL9413, Feature 2 (garagelshed outbuilding), view to the north.
Feature 3 is a small outhouse structure southeast of the garage/shed outbuilding(Figure 29). It is
constructed the same as the garage/shed outbuilding, clad in horizontal wood siding(abutted rather than
lapped or joined planks). In contrast, the off-center door, facing the farm complex,is made of vertical
planks. The north fagade has a tiny square unglazed vent window centered in its upper portion. The shed
roof on the outhouse appears to have been replaced. The outhouse is set over an open, oversized hole that
appears to have been dug in recent years and the structure moved over it and, without deposition, would
not have further archaeological potential.
26
