Cultural Resource Review and Reconnaissance Survey for the Fairmeadows RV Storage and Gravel Mining Pit
Project. Greeley, Weld County, Colorado
-
f.
a
J
.w
..v
Figure 17. Site 5WL9412, Feature 3 (concrete block building) north corner with back
(northeast)facade on left, and partial northwest facade on right, view to the south.
Feature 4 is a Quonset but utility shed,a long rectangular building with an arched roof that continues
downward to function as walls,creating a half-cylinder building volume(Figures 18-20;see Figures 14-
16).The Quonset but is clad in corrugated steel with a two-door single bay entry centered on the
southwest end. Two pairs of six-lite windows are set on either side of the entry bay,and a louvered air
vent is set above the entry bay.On the east half of the southeast side of the outbuilding are six additional
six-lite windows. The semicircular northeast facade of the outbuilding has a similar bay opening and
windows as the southwest end;however, the northeast facade also has a corrugated steel—sided(shed-
roofed)entry room added on its north corner. The entry room has the same six-lite windows as the main
Quonset but as well as a small cement-surfaced chimney on its northeast side(see Figures 16 and 18).
The Quonset but is consistent with Stran-Steel models(prefabricated kits)dating to World War II and
after(Thomas 2003).Weld County's assessed date of 1950 for this building is likely accurate.
18
