• During the period from 1906 to 1908, the Quinto Mine produced coal from west of the current
proposed permit boundary near the northwest corner of the leased property. Reportedly, the mine
in the L seam had a height of five feet and produced a total 169,903 tons. No effects of
subsidence were observed with respect to this small mine. The Frederick Mine, located east of
the permit area in Widow Woman Canyon had extensive workings in a coal 300' - 500' below the
Primero in the 1920s. There is little evidence of subsidence at this site.
The Primero Mine portals are located in the mouth of Smith Canyon near Segundo. This mine
extracted six to eight feet of Primero Coal using room and pillar techniques with secondary
recovery from 1902-1925. The portal is located at approximately 6900' MSL and the topographic
high in the area is 7200' MSL. There is no evidence of subsidence in the area from reviewing
aerial photography.
