The inspection was conducted by Clayton Wein
of the Division. The Fruita No 1 and 2 Mine (Fruita Mine)is a revoked permit; therefore, no
operator to have a representative present for the inspection. The weather was clear with a
temperature of 23 degrees F. The ground conditions were partly snow covered, muddy and soft.
Access to the higher elevations of the mine site was limited due to the ground conditions.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The sediment pond is located in the southern portion of the permit boundary and is a permanent feature of
the site (Photo 1). The pond's embankments were covered with snow. There were no indications of erosional
features or instability. The outlet for the pond is lined with riprap. The outlet was in good condition. Some snow
was held in the bottom of the pond at the time of the inspection,
The reclaimed haul road was partly covered with snow. The portions that were not snow covered, were soft and
muddy from melted snow. The reclaimed haul road faces to the south. The lower portion of the haul road was
stable with no indications of erosional features (Photo 2). The middle portion of the reclaimed haul road was also
stable and there were no indications of erosion(Photo 3). The upper portion of the haul road and the Mine portal
bench were inaccessible due to the soft ground conditions.
The mine portals bench has a reclaimed slope that faces to the south. The reclaimed slope has sparse vegetation.
The slope was observed to be stable with no new indications of erosion(Photo 4). The riprap channel extends from
the top of the bench to the base of the hill, and then drains into the sediment pond. The channel was stable.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None
OTHER(SPECIFY): None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 8
