Box 467 <br />Boulder, Colorado <br />Dear Mr. Mergen: <br />Resource, Inc. <br />80306 <br />The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has received your request for a list of <br />threatened and endangered plants that may be found in Mesa County, Colorado. <br />The request was in regards to Powderhorn Coal Company's coal mine in Coal <br />Canyon. <br />There is only one threatened plant, Sclerocactus glaucus (Uinta Basin hookless <br />cactus), which may occur in Mesa County. There is also a candidate species, <br />Phacelia submutica (DeBeque phacelia)., In addition to plants there are <br />• several threatened and endangered animals which may occur in the coal mining <br />area or may be impacted by mining operations. These are the bald eagle <br />(Haliaeetus leucocephalus}, peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), southwestern <br />willow flycatcher (Empidonax trailJii extimus), Colorado squawfish <br />(Ptychocheilus lucius), bonytail (Gila elegans), humpback chub (Gila cypha), <br />and razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus). <br />If the Service can be of further assistance, please contact Terry Ireland at <br />the letterhead address or (970) 243-2778. <br />Sincerely, <br />eith L.
