RESULTS
C~
The new greasewood reference azea (NGWRA) encompasses approximately 2.4 acres
northwest of the Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No. 1 situated on aneast-facing colluvial
toeslope and fan. The NGWRA is bisec;ted by the channel of the ephemeral drainage
through the area. The east boundary is the BLM Book Cliffs access road and the west
boundary is the break in slope where a :noticeable change in vegetation occurs. UTM
coordinates of the center of the NGWRA are 106,050 feet E and 1,019,500 feet N. The
observed slope ranges from less than one degree to ten degrees, with the majority of the .
azea on slopes approximating two degrees in slope. Aspect was predominantly east. Soils
were generally silty in texture, with rock ii•agments increasing with an increase in upslope
position.
Four lifeforms were encountered during the sampling of the NGWRA. They included
graminoids, forbs, succulents, and shrubs. Fifteen individual plant species were
encountered during cover sampling. Of the species encountered, eleven were perennial
and four were annual. The six graminoid species were evenly distributed between cool
and warm season species. Both forb species encountered were identified as cool season.
Shrubs were all deciduous in habit and 'the succulent was evergreen Six species were
graminoids, two were forbs, one was succulent, and six were deciduous shrubs and low
shrubs. Twelve species were native in origin and three were introduced. The plant species
encountered and their characteristics are presented in Table 1.
Vegetation Cover
Total vegetation cover of the NGWRA was 49.07 percent. Based on cover sampling,
graminoids represented 35.47 percent mean cover (67.61% relative cover), forbs
accounted for 0.93 percent mean cover (1.42% relative cover), the succulent provided
0.13 percent mean cover (0.20% relative cover), and woody plants represented 12.53
percent mean cover and 30.77 percent relative cover.
•
-4-
