The inspection was conducted on
September 28,2022. Clayton Wein of the Division completed the inspection. The Fruita No. 1 and 2 Mine is a
revoked site;therefore,no company representative was present for the inspection. The weather was clear with a
temperature of 70 degrees F. The ground conditions were dry.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
The Fruita No. 1 and 2 Mine has been reclaimed. Reclamation on the haul road and the portals bench has
been complete for over 10 years. The lower portion of the reclaimed haul road was vegetated and stable (Photo 1).
There were no indications of new erosional features. Rills have been identified in previous Division inspections.
The rills for a few years have stabilized and no increase in the size or depth of the rills was observed. Water
transported in the rills drains to the gulch above the sediment pond and then into the sediment pond. No off site
impacts were identified. The upper portion of the reclaimed haul road is similar to the lower. The reclamation
remained stable with vegetative cover(Photo 2). Some rills have been observed in previous Division inspections.
The rills did not appear to have increased in their size or depth. The rills have been noted to be stabilized and
transport runoff to the gulch above the sediment pond. There were no off site impacts observed. The slope of the
reclaimed portals bench was stable (Photo 3). There were no indications of new erosional features. The slope has
sparse vegetative cover and faces to the south. The riprap channel on the slope was stable with no erosional
concerns. The riprap appeared to be in good condition. The limited amount of vegetation on the slope has been
documented in previous Division reports. The top of the reclaimed bench was stable with dense vegetative cover.
Most of the vegetation was beginning to dry out as the fall season begins. There is on large erosional feature in
the form of a gully on top of the bench. This gully has been there for several years. The gully has become a stable
channel and transports runoff to the riprap lined channel extending down the slope of the bench to the sediment
pond. The gully was observed to be stable and has not increased in size or depth. The backfilled portals were
vegetated and stable. There were no erosional features identified. The sediment pond was dry during the
inspection(Photo 4). The embankment was stable with vegetative cover. No erosional features were observed.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 5
