Bureau of Land Management Appendices
Royal Gorge Field Office DOI-BLM-CO-F020-2020-0036 EA
The operator has mined in the existing pit for
many years and has drilled to deeper than 100
feet on and around the site.No groundwater has
been encountered. The present pit floor elevation
(in 2018-2019) is 8020 ft. Colorado Quarries,
Inc performed exploratory drilling on the Black
Obsidian deposit in October of 2018,to confirm
the depth of the obsidian deposit. Three holes
i. Approximate were drilled in the pit floor of the obsidian
depth of water deposit. One hole was drilled on the Victor N N N _
table, if known Lode. Two holes were drilled on the King of the
Valley Lode. All three holes were in the black
obsidian deposit, full depth of holes being 85'
(to bottom-of-hole elevation is 7935 ft).Water
was not encountered in any of the holes. If
Colorado Quarries encounters groundwater at
deeper pit floor depths, the operator will comply
with all State laws and regulations requirements.
There are no seeps orsprings on or near the site.
Since the obsidian does not allow percolation of
impounded water,periodic dewatering of the
j. Surface water impounded water in the pit will be needed. All
controls pumped water will report to sediment ponds Y N N -
below the mine; due to the characteristics of the
obsidian, the pumped water will not contain
sediment from the pit.
A-6
