Office(303)688-6611 6374 S. Racine Circle, Centennial,Colorado 80111
Fax(303)688-6685
www.castierockconstructionco.com
Orton Pit Engineering Analysis
of Lumen Telephone Line Crossing
General Project Information:
Castle Rock Construction Company is pursuing a borrow pit on the southern edge of El Paso County,
located at mile post 27.7 on State Highway 115, to provide earthen fill for CDOT Project 22903 on
SH115. The proposed pit would expand a historic pit from the original construction of SH115 and only be
permitted/used for this one Project (less than 2 years). Access for this operation will be through an
existing field access driveway. Near the right of way fence line for State Highway 115 there is an
underground copper telephone line owned by Lumen which crosses the existing drive access.
Basis of Analysis:
Soil borings were conducted 200 feet away within the limits of the Proposed Orton Pit, the results of the
soil testing from those boring conducted by Ground Engineering concluded that the soils were all A-2-4
or better.
Findings and Conclusions:
Based off the soil data collected the following findings and conclusions can be made:
1. If 2 feet of cover are maintained above the existing copper telephone line owed by Lumen, there
will be no risk of damage to the existing Lumen line.
2. CRCC shall verify the existing depth of the Lumen line which was assumed to be a standard 30
inch bury depth to confirm that there is a minimum of 2 feet of cover above the line.
3. Under no circumstance shall CRCC cut below existing grade above this line, fill may be placed as
part of the roadway improvements.
4. CRCC shall maintain a minimum of 2 feet of cover over the existing Lumen line, if there is less
than 2 feet of cover existing, fill shall be placed prior to any haul operations out of the Orton Pit.
In all there will be no impact to the existing Lumen line from operations at the proposed Orton pit if 2 feet
of cover is maintained above the existing line. CRCC shall maintain 2 feet of cover above the line until
operations in this proposed pit are complete.
Prepared By:
4?0
Travis Bell, EI
General Superintendent,Castle Rock Construction Company
