4. The quality topsoils on the far north end are well worth moving far to the south
for use where better soils can be used with discretion on poorer areas that are
more critical to have good soil.
5. The rest of the material should be used to shape the land in the area and, if
necessary, finish the reclamation of the old large sediment basin that is in this
area after it is determined what is needed there (see next section).
SEDIMENT BASIN:
1. Although the large, roughly 20 year old sediment basin just north of the office
and scale, is very well vegetated, its actual physical condition has not been
determined.
2. In areas there are small ponds and swampy areas that could contain quicksand
or other features that are too hazardous to be allowed for release from bond as
grazing land which it otherwise could be.
3. If a thorough examination over the summer season does not reveal the existence
of such soft, mushy or ponded areas then release could be considered.
4. Otherwise portions of this area may need to be buried in overburden to
eliminate the hazards. This area will be thoroughly examined in the summer,
autumn, and winter of 2022 to assess what is needed to eliminate hazards.
NORTH CENTRAL STOCKPILE AREAS:
1. This area is located north of the Sediment Basin and forms a long gradual slope
rising to the general land elevation to the north. Much is composed of
overburden. But at the furthest extent are windrows of topsoil.
2. As stated before, most of the topsoil should be moved down into the pit leaving
enough to topdress the gradual slope to the south in selected areas where it is
needed for revegetation of this slope.
3. The overburden here should not be disturbed until it is known how much
overburden is needed to finish the Sediment Basin or use elsewhere.
4. Then the rest can be spread on this slope as well as on the slopes to the east to
meet slope steepness specifications (maximum 3:1).
Fountain Pit Technical Revision#3 - June 2022 M-1982-155 Reclamation Plan Page 3 of 23
