~y <br />r <br />SECTION 02200 -EARTHWORK <br />PART1-GENERAL <br />1.01 Approval <br />The Contractor shall coordinate construction activities with the Atlantic Richfield <br />~- Company (ARCO) Project Engineer, hereinafter called Engineer, and shall give the <br />Engineer fourteen (14) calendar days notice prior to the starting of any excavation <br />operations. <br />j 1.02 Contractors Operation Base <br />The Contractor shall select and maintain his base of operations in such location es <br />approved by the Engineer. <br />1.03 Foundations <br />Foundations for structures and pipes shall be prepared to provide a stable <br />permanent base upon which to build the various items. <br />1.04 Soils Tests <br /> <br />A soil testing program was carried out prior to design by Chen and Associates on <br />July 31, 1980. This report is available for review by the Contractor. The Con- • <br />tractor shall satisfy himself as to the actual field conditions and shall assume Bill <br />responsibility for the use and interpretation of the soils information in the report. <br />Prior to the beginning of construction the Contractor shall perform additional tests <br />on the borrow areas for all materials on-site or imported, to determine gradations, <br />optimum moisture content, maximum dry density end any other information <br />requested by the Engineer or Owner or required by the work. All information so <br />obtained shall be copied and submitted to the ARCO Coel Company. <br />PART 2 -PRODUCTS <br />2.01 Excavated Material <br />A. Type 1 Material Excavation <br />Type 1 material includes all materiel excavated on the upper plateau of the <br />site that is in reasonable conformance with the gradation and properties for <br />Type 1 material outlined later in this Specification. Type 1 material will <br />primarily be obtained from within the pond boundary of MB#1 and FW #1 end <br />from the area designated "Auxiliary Borrow Area" on the Plans. <br />B. Type 2 Material Excavation <br />Type 2 material includes all material excavated from the lower area of the <br />site that is in reasonable conformance with the gradation and properties for • <br />Type 2 material as detailed later in this Specification. Type 2 material will <br />primarily be obtained from within the boundary of MB#2, MB#3 and FW #2. <br />02200-1 <br />
