Stoddard Pit
Exhibit D - Reclamation Plan
Reclamation of the site will begin once the open pit area has reached
.91 acres or roughly 200' X 200'. This will consist of sloping all edges to a
3:1 slope or less so that Mr. Stoddard can continue to use the land as
rangeland for his own livestock. Any overburden that has been pushed up
will be placed over the slopes at a depth of 4"-6" Sloping will begin once
the open pit area has a dimension of 200' X 200' as this will limit the open
area to no larger than .91 acres without a reclamation of 3:1 slopes on any
mined area that is considered to be depleted with a depth of no more than
30'.
Following USDA recommendations , the site will be reclaimed by
reseeding with native gramma grass, using a "no till" drill. Planting dates
will be between Oct. 15th and May 15th. Livestock will be fenced out of
the site during the first 2 years to give the grass time to establish. If
necessary , seed may be broadcast where "no till" drilling is not possible.
Seed recommendations from the USDA soil conservation district will be
used as a guide at a rate 5 Ibs per acre, either broadcast or no till drilled.
Estimated Cost for revegetation
Estimated cost for revegetation is as follows and consists of placing
overburden and topsoil back at no more than 3:1 slopes.
1 . Seed cost for 9.7 acres @ $1 ,200/ac. _ $11 ,640
2. Operating cost for drill @ $125/hr. _ $1 ,500
(12 hrs estimated)
3. Replacing overburden , cut and fill slopes = $ 3,125
(JD 850 dozer @ $125/hr, estimated at 25hrs)
4. Labor and material to install electric fence = $1 ,400
(2800' @ $.50/ft )
Total Estimated cost of reclamation = $17,665
