ECS/MAC
TR-8
April 20, 2022
REcavEo
Mr. Eric Scott, P.G., R.G.
Colorado DRMS MAY 16 2022
1313 Sherman St., Room 215 DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
Denver, CO 80203 MINING AND SAFETY
Re: Aggregate Industries- Morrison Quarry
18129 Colorado Highway 8, Morrison, Colorado
DRMS File M-1973-021-Technical Revision (TR08)for Biannual Inspections
Dear Mr. Scott,
On behalf of Aggregate Industries— WCR Inc. (AI), HDR Engineering, Inc. (HDR) is submitting this
Technical Revision (TR)to the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety(DRMS) 112
Construction Materials Reclamation Permit M-1973-021. This TR (TR08)summarizes the
justification to change the biannual quarry face monitoring methodology from LiDAR to
photogrammetry.
Introduction
As part of the Seventh Amendment (AM07)to the Permit M-1973-021,Aggregate Industries
Morrison Quarry updated the highwall monitoring approach used to collect data summarized in
the Morrison Quarry Annual Geotechnical Addendum.AM07 increased highwall monitoring to a
minimum of biannual inspections and supplemented the monitoring plan to include scans of the
rock face. The rock face scanning approach in AM07 utilized LiDAR mapping.Al has reviewed other
scanning methodologies and will proceed with photogrammetry in lieu of LiDAR,a technology that
provides high resolution scanning images and is more easily managed in the existing database.
Basis for Change to Photogrammetry
LiDAR techniques provide a point cloud image for the end user to measure and interpret the data
points. Photogrammetry on the other hand incorporates photos of the site with the higher
resolution point cloud data. This combination, especially when utilized in rock face scanning
applications, creates an accurate 3D terrain model and permits the end user to more readily
identify structural features within the rock, as well as lithology variations that may be present. This
hdrinc.com
1670 Broadway,Suite 3400
Denver,CO 80202
