Based on the planned reclamation activities and the current conditions, the worst-case reclamation
scenario will consist of the following items. These items were calculated based on the current
topography of the site by measuring the length, slope, and height of the unreclaimed slopes, and
the maximum disturbance limit of 25 acres outside of mining.
1. Reclamation of the ponds
a. Pit dewatering
i. Pond 1: previously reclaimed, no dewatering required
ii. Pond 2: 4.6-acre lake at 6 ft. deep: 47.6 ac-ft.
iii. Pond 3: 5.6-acre lake at 10 ft. deep: 56.0 ac-ft.
iv. Pond 4: 15.8-acre lake at 8 ft. deep: 126.4 ac-ft.
v. Pit 5: no dewatering required
vi. Total: 230 ac-ft. dewatering volume
b. Backfilling and grading to the final reclaimed slope conditions, from mining slopes to
3HAV reclamation slopes*:
i. Pond 1: previously reclaimed, no backfill or grading needed
ii. Pond 2: Approx. 355 ft. length of highwall at 14 ft. tall: 2,425 CY backfill
iii. Pond 3: Approx. 485 ft. length of highwall at 12 ft. tall: 1,295 CY backfill
iv. Pond 4: Approx. 3,830 ft. length of highwall at 24 ft. tall: 39,900 CY pushed
with dozer
v. Pond 5: convert to industrial, no backfilling or grading required
*Note: Backfill quantities were calculated using the current topography and the target reclamation slopes.
c. Topsoiling and discing pond slopes:
i. Pond 1: previously reclaimed, no topsoil required
ii. Pond 2: Approx. 1.7 acres at 6 in. thickness: 1,390 CY
iii. Pond 3: Approx. 1.6 acres at 6 in. thickness: 1,295 CY
iv. Pond 4: Approx. 7.0 acres at 6 in. thickness: 5,620 CY
v. Pit 5: convert to industrial, no topsoil required
vi. Total: 8,305 CY of topsoil required (stockpiled on site)
d. Seeding and mulching of pond slopes (same areas as above)
2. Reclamation of the disturbances outside of the pits
a. Topsoiling and grading of maximum 25 acres of disturbance at 6 in. thickness:
20,170 CY
b. Seeding and mulching of maximum 25 acres
3. Weed management for two years after reclamation
23 Road Pit Technical
Revision 5 ®Lewicki 8f Associates
April 2022
