All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. New Elk Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land located approximately 3 miles West of Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows: Lands south of the Middle Fork of the Purgatorie River, lands east of Cow Canyon, lands north of the Puertecito Canyon, and lands west of Lorencito Canyon, covering approximately 3,142 acres. The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the following USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map(s): Little Pine Canyon. This application is to renew the Lorencito Canyon Mine permit, which expires November 7, 2022. This renewal application does not propose revisions to the approved mining and reclamation plan, nor is there any proposed surface disturbance outside of the currently approved disturbance area.
