RULE 2 PERMITS
• Topsoil borrow limitations
■ Permeability class
■ Wind erodibility group
■ Water erosion hazard "K" factor
■ General fertility discussion
A summary of information relating to soil suitability and recommended salvage depths is provided in
Table 2.04.9-20 and salvageable soil volumes are presented in Table 2.04.9-16. The information for each
map unit and soil series includes:
■ Map unit symbol and name
■ Acreage of each map unit in the disturbed area
■ Soil sample location numbers
■ Total soil depth
■ Total salvage depth
■ Recommended topsoil/subsoil salvage depth
■ Primary borrow limitations
According to the suitable salvage depths of the encountered soils, it is apparent that a sufficient volume of
suitable soil exists in the Collom mining disturbance area to ensure subsequent successful reclamation,
assuming all recommended suitable soil is salvaged and best -management practices (BMPs) are employed
during reclamation activities. Salvage of soils on slopes greater than 40 percent may be impractical in
this area; however, a sufficient volume of suitable soil should still be available for successful reclamation
assuming BMPs are used. The total disturbed acreage is estimated at approximately 2353 acres. Table
2.04.9-20 presents the estimated salvage volume of topsoil within the disturbance boundary. Should the
entire disturbance footprint be disturbed at one time, the estimated volume of topsoil available would
cover the entire area with approximately one foot of topsoil. These figures do not account any swell
which is typically near 20 percent in this area.
Collom — Rule 2, Page 43 Revision Date: 4/7/17
Revision No.: RN -07
