March 17, 2022 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine LJW
County Road from sedimentation. An example of the sediment control devices can be seen in Photo Four. All
devices observed appear to be functioning as designed and no evidence of sedimentation or sheet flow across the
County Road was noted.
King II Facility: During this inspection both the East and West CWD's were observed, as well as the Sediment
Pond and the ditches downgradient of the pond. Both the East and West CWD's have undergone recent cleanout
efforts, removing weeds and other vegetative debris. Examples of the ditches can be seen in Photos Five and Six.
The ditches are cleared of all obstructions to allow flows to proceed unobstructed. The large Sediment Pond was
observed to have a small amount of standing water flowing from the main operations area. The pond was not
discharging at the time of the inspection and can be seen in Photo Seven. The downgradient ditches from the
Sediment Pond have also undergone extensive cleanup operations removing the vegetation and vegetative debris.
The ditches are unobstructed but do not show signs of recent flows.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
King I Facility: The Lower Refuse Pile was observed and appeared to be in good condition. Grading
operations have left the pile draining to the West at a slightly steeper rate than intended. On site discussions
indicate that the grade will be corrected in the coming weeks, however due to equipment breakdowns and
personnel constraints the grading has been delayed. This is not considered a problem at this time, but will be
remedied as soon as equipment comes back on line and personnel is available to accomplish the task. Several
windrows of Gobb is stockpiled on the surface of the pile that will be used to achieve a gentler grade and match
the access road to prevent erosion. The windrows and refuse pile can be seen in Photos Eight,Nine and Ten.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 8
