PERMIT#:M-1983-194
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS:ACY
INSPECTION DATE:March 17,2022
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division)
normal monitoring program. The Nahcolite Project is a 112d-3 permitted site that includes a total of 12,248
permitted acres with a maximum disturbance of 260 acres. At this time, approximately 100 acres have been
affected. The site located approximately 25 miles southwest of Meeker, Colorado in Rio Blanco County. Kirk
Daehling, Gerry Deschaine and Jerry Daub represented the operator and accompanied Amy Yeldell of the
Division on the inspection. No representative from White River Field Office BLM was present.
The Division initially met with NSI staff at the office. Mr. Daehling indicated that the parent company sale is
now complete. The sale did not affect naming at a local level therefore a Succession of Operator permit transfer
is not required. All adjustments to the bond have already been completed. No changes to production level or
staffing are anticipated in the near future. After the transition period is complete more long-term planning will
occur.
The majority of the site was still covered in snow. South facing slopes are nearly thawed however vegetation
remains dormant. No excessive erosion was observed from the melting snow. BMP features will likely need
cleaned out later this spring once the remainder of snow has melted off.
The Division observed all wells (pad areas)that are scheduled to be drilled or abandoned this summer. No
additional disturbances are anticipated. Given the delay on procuring supplies, commencement of drilling and
plugging will likely be mid-summer if not later depending on availability. All permitting for new wells has
already been completed, similarly sundry notices for wells to be abandoned have also been submitted. Final
completion reports or abandonment reports will be submitted at the end.
No problems or violations were noted during this inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Amy Yeldell at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Room 215, 1001 E 62nd Ave, Denver, CO 80216. Direct contact can be made by phone at 303-
866-3567 Ext 8183 or via email at amy.yeldell@state.co.us
Inspection Contact Address
Kirk Daehling
Natural Soda LLC
3200 CR 31
Rifle, CO 81650
EC:
Travis Marshall, Senior EPS, Grand Junction DRMS
Bill Mills Jerry Daub
BLM-White River Field Office Daub and Associates, Inc.
220 E Market Street 1985 '/2 South Broadway
Meeker, CO 81641 Grand Junction, CO 81507
Page 2 of 6
