PERMIT#:M-1978-357
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS:ACY
INSPECTION DATE:February 22,2022
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division)
normal monitoring program. The Bradbury Pit is a 112c permitted site that includes a total of 38 permitted
acres. The site is located approximately six miles southeast of Whitewater, Colorado and is accessed from 35
6/10 Road. Jim Doody of Grand Junction Pipe & Supply Co. represented the operator and accompanied Amy
Yeldell of the Division on the inspection.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule
3.1.12. A signs is posted at the permit boundary entrance. A locked gate has been installed near the access road
to limit pit traffic. The permit boundary is delineated by fences. A scale and scale house also remain on site.
There is no exposed groundwater on site.
This site remains inactive. This operation is approved for intermittent status. No equipment or fuel is located on
site. There are a few remaining stockpiles are located on the pit floor. The majority of the material is
naturals/fines that will likely be graded out upon final reclamation. All stockpiles appear to be stable and free of
erosion. Mining has concluded at this pit but final reclamation has not yet commenced. Some interim
reclamation has been conducted but will remain limited until all stockpiles are depleted.
The majority of the perimeter highwalls have been graded. It was previously noted that the graded slopes were
seeded however there is very little vegetation present and seeding success was poor. Approximately 500 linear
feet of 15 foot high highwall still needs to be sloped. Once stockpiles are removed stockpile areas will need to
be ripped given the compacted nature of the site.
The pit floor has some volunteer vegetation both desirable and undesirable.Native vegetation is primarily rabbit
brush and greasewood. Remnants of last year's weeds (primarily Kochia, halogeton and russian thistle)were
observed. The operator is encouraged to remain vigilant in weed management to help protect reclaimed areas
for being out competed by undesirable vegetation. In general the site has little to no topsoil. The operator may
benefit from importing manure, compost or other alternative soil materials.
The Division currently requires a financial warranty amount of$101,453.12 for this site. The bond was last
recalculated in 2018 and found to be sufficient. In an effort to ensure the Financial Warranty adequately,
reflects the actual current cost of fulfilling the requirements of the approved reclamation plan the Division has
updated the reclamation cost estimate and found the current bond amount to be sufficient.
No problems or violations were noted during this inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to: Amy Yeldell at the Division of Reclamation,Mining
and Safety, Rm 215, 1001 E 62nd Ave, Denver, CO 80216.
