The Contact Pond Channel will intercept runoff water from the operations area and direct it into
the lined contact water pond. Water from this pond will be re-used for plant operations and if
discharge becomes necessary,it will be tested and treated to meet water quality standards or shown
to meet water quality standards. This channel is a secondary containment for water that may
contact areas of the mine where spills or accidents may occur. The third and final channel (Onsite
Stormwater Diversion Channel) is located downhill from the laydown and stockpile areas. This
channel will capture runoff from offsite flowing to the site from the east and from the laydown and
stockpile areas. Water will be directed into the detention pond where release rates can be
controlled, and sediment removed. The Contact Pond Channel and the Onsite Stormwater
Diversion Channel will be removed during mine reclamation.
Location & Description
The project is in Fremont County, Colorado, '/z mile north of Fremont County Road 3, also known
as Temple Canyon Road, and 1 '/z miles west of the Dawson Ranch subdivision near Canon City,
Colorado.
The proposed project limits encompass about 82 acres. The project and natural drainageway the
project will discharge into does not enter the Dawson Ranch community to the east.
The project lies 1.4 miles south of Grape Creek. Surface water flows into an unnamed natural
drainage at the site then northeasterly for about 2 '/z miles before it discharges into Grape Creek.
The permit boundary and project location are shown below as Figure 1-Vicinity and Drainage
Map.
Figure 1-Vicinity and Drainage Map
1 / /. /I — ,L
81 s8 AcrEs
Ir
..—.
N
7T N
00
