Ingoing Water The production equipment utilizes water for dust control and cuttings
removal in roof bolting. Water used by equipment is based on 333 shifts worked by
continuous miner sections and 366 shifts worked by the longwall. The continuous miner
sections use 100 gpm and operate about 4 hours per shift (the rest of the time is spent
moving, etc.). The longwall equipment uses 200 gpm of water for about 8 hours per shift.
The amount of water entering the mine as ventilation intake air humidity is based on
monthly mean temperatures from Table II.C-1 on page II.C-5 of the Mining Permit and the
yearly mean relative humidity of 56% found on page II.E-1 of the Mining Permit. The
absolute humidity, the actual amount of water in the air, is calculated from these data
using an average ventilation quantity of 398,010 cubic feet per minute.
TABLE 2-2
MINE WATER BALANCE
WATER IN GALLONS/YR GALLONS/MIN
Production Equipment 43,128,000 82.05
Ventilation Humidity 8,468,149 16.11
Underground Storage of Thickener Water 0 0.0
Incidental (pipe leaks, road watering, wash down) 4,312,800 8.21
TOTAL 55,908,949 106.37
WATER OUT
Coal Surface Moisture 17,838,228 33.94
Ventilation Humidity 17,661,030 33.60
Pumped Out— B-Seam 28,827,400 54.85
Pumped Out— D-Seam 31,681,224 60.28
TOTAL 96,007,882 182.67
Net Water Pumped Out 40,098,933 76.30
Water pumped from B seam to D seam 0 0
No thickener water was transferred underground for storage during the reporting period.
This number is based on operational knowledge of the tons washed and other factors
such as the type of clays encountered, processing equipment efficiencies, etc. As the belt
presses were in use during the entire reporting period, no thickener water was stored
underground during the reporting period.
9
