Criteria for purging a well are summarized in Table 1.
Parameter Purge Criteria
Purge volume >_1 pump/tubing fluid volume
Flow rate >100 mL/m and <500 mL/m
Water level Minimal to no drawdown
pH ± 0.1 pH units
Specific Conductance ± 10 percent
Table 1.Summary of Groundwater Purge Protocol.
Higher TDS purge water will be collected in a five gallon bucket or other suitable container and
discarded into the NS waste pond or other appropriate receptacle.
3.1 Sample Collection
Groundwater and injectate samples will be collected with an approved method (Appendix B,
Sections B.6, "General Considerations for the Sampling of Liquids," and B.B, "Standard Practice
for Purging of Monitoring Wells"). Sample collection will be conducted using the same flow
rate used during the purging of the well. Refer to Section B.13, "Standard Practice for the
Collection and Preservation of Liquid Samples," in Appendix B. The approved Iaboratory2
provides NS with pre-cleaned and pre-preserved sample bottles. In addition, the laboratory
handles the QA/QC protocols for all groundwater samples. NS conducts all field sampling, field
data collection, and sample collection. NS is responsible for ensuring groundwater samples are
delivered to the laboratory within the required hold times and preservation techniques. Daub
performs additional QA/QC by compiling all analytical data and cross checking the data with
historical values.
3.2 Field Measurements and Calibration
General methodologies for field measurements are located in Appendix B, Sections B.9 through
B.13. Calibration of field instrumentation will be conducted according to manufacturer's
recommendations, refer to Table 2 for basic calibration checks. If calibration acceptance
criteria are not met during the operational check, a primary calibration of the affected probe(s)
and instruments(s) must be conducted. Probe replacement or cleaning may also be required if
the operational acceptance criteria are not met, per the manufacturer's calibration
specifications.
2 ACZ Laboratories, Inc. in Steamboat Springs, CO is currently contracted to NS for water sample
analyses.
Daub&Associates, Inc. 5 NS LLC 2022 SAP
