The highwall mining region is outlined yellow and red
arrows are shown to help find the proposed additional highwall mining area. The majority of the proposed
additional highwall mining area is within previously disturbed areas associated with the South Taylor Pit.
f WEST TAYQR FJ2 t
- (PEPMANEW fi1lGk2f04Y1A3i pVE 7 1'{.','L R rkt
N(HWdl rw=
--=.v
rPEPJ -N 3 f n HC4V4tlNwG
EST +T
r•orr !'' 2 7.2077
x 7;Hrciatrrr sfr nr 7 rT f r r°; 1 7 'l
-2002 , r rrrwr aiIulv( €foo2rr
axe 99
EAST Tea LOR FIL t/ f+f+f ` y EASr Try OR Ptt
- (PER,ANENT) {.r+r I 4 r •' "'* '_ (PER+4NEl171 g
f
SITh TAYt014
HtGFiW4ZL+UiJ!lCr
2022-2o2e 2013-2022 HIGHWALt lrIVN
/ "I I , f
fr k. sfTrouv?sT207-2010
3. s
S U2/H TAY7O ' TR TAYLOR f 1
HIGHWALt 441NHVG 1- z20043
21 %
29 7F1xN4YLtJ4ilhlJG .
*{ 2016 lf
' •1 HI'bH mojvN f ram._ i J'
I i' f 207 74 1 ti 507. 4
yam~ •S K _ f-r'_ f
Propose TR-1 52
JApproy&d TR-147
It should be noted that the majority of highwall mining for the Colowyo Mine adjacent to southern and western limits of the
South Taylor Pit have already been approved with TR-147 as shown above in the image. Attached is the correspondence
from SHPO to the Division regarding TR-147 and highwall mining operations for the noted portion of the South Taylor Pit.
Colowyo Mine's approved highwall mining plan for the South Taylor Pit is zero-subsidence plan which incorporates
pillaring between entries. No subsidence is expected from highwall mining operations at the South Taylor Pit or has
occurred as a result of previous highwall mining. I have also included Colowyo Mine's approved highwall mining
engineering report and analysis for the South Taylor Pit. This report and analysis is based on standard highwall
engineering practices as well as site specific evaluation from the extensive highwall mining operations that have occurred
historically at the Colowyo Mine (orange outlines within the image above). Due to file size constraints of Gmail, the
following Google Drive link includes the above stated approved highwall mining engineering reports.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1 0-ikV3-84TnTac8FVOkP_RgfV25nO8Bf?usp=sharing
For highwall mining, operations occur from within the pit area outside of the mined subsurface regions. All
personnel operate from the outside and do not enter the subsurface area. As a result, no ventilation, associated surface
borehole drilling, and support roads are necessary. Additionally, per Rule 4.23.2(4)(a)of the Regulations of the Colorado
Mined Land Board for Coal Mining require all entry holes from highwall mining to be backfilled and compacted within 72
hours of completion.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
On Thu, Jan 6, 2022 at 9:02 AM Marques- HC, Matthew<matthew.marques@state.co.us>wrote:
Hi Zach,
https://mail.google.com/mail/b/ALGkd0y8elLUpphO-cw_b4dRu9Vtn4AuagQgJnHQChhDjud92irb/u/O/?ik=deb7fOcd20&view=pt&search=all&permthid=t... 1/3
