ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTION INFORMATION INCLUDED (a summary of information attached) <br /> In accordance with Part I.E.2. of the CDPS Permit #CO-0045161 for Colowyo Mine Outfall 010, <br /> this status/progress report is required to provide conclusions on bench-scale and pilot testing of <br /> treatment options, document selected treatment option, provide update in obtaining funding for <br /> selected treatment option, submit documentation that final designs of the treatment have been <br /> completed, and provide updates on any other activities undergone related to the installation of <br /> treatment to ensure the final limitations will be met by 10/1/2023. <br /> The bench-scale testing conducted in 2020 and early 2021 was reported to the Division in the May <br /> 2021 submittal, concluding that the passive biological sulfate reduction (BSR) methodology was <br /> not effective at reducing the overall chronic toxicity, and therefore, excluded from the treatment <br /> options. Based on this result, pilot testing was not pursued. <br /> The facility has chosen deep well injection as the selected treatment option. We worked with EPA <br /> Region 8 Underground Injection Control (UIC) permitting staff throughout the summer-fall 2021 , to <br /> support the submittal a Class V UIC permit application on November 11 , 2021 . A copy of the <br /> application was provided at the time of submittal to Ms. Erin Scott, Water Quality Control Division. <br /> A copy of the UIC permit application is also provided as an attachment to this report, which <br /> includes the design information for this treatment option. <br /> The funding process is underway, with the initial study scope addressed in 2020-2021 and capital <br /> expenses planned for 2022-2023. Colowyo and Tri-State's budgets are typically developed by Q2 <br /> for the following year, with final approval from the Board of Directors in Q3-4. <br /> The facility is currently working on contracting documents for the well construction anticipated to <br /> commence in mid-2022, which will support the final compliance date of 10/1/2023. <br /> The next compliance schedule Status/Progress Report is due 7/31/2022 to address <br /> commencement of construction for the selected treatment option. <br /> • PART E.
