Well Construction Information
At the proposed UIC location approximately 70' of Mancos shale exists between the top of the
injection zone and the base of the Iles Formation, and approximately 520' of mostly shales exists
between the top of the injection zone and the completed interval in the existing Colowyo well
within the AOR (Taylor Creek#3 completed in the Iles Formation).
Other sandstones in the lower Mancos Shale, the lower Cretaceous Dakota Sandstone, the
Jurassic Entrada Sandstone, the Triassic Shinarump Formation, and the Pennsylvanian Weber
Sandstone have been granted EPA aquifer exemptions in Moffat and Rio Blanco counties and thus,
may potentially be considered USDWs in the area. However, these are unlikely to be economical
sources of groundwater due to the depths of these formations in the center portion of the
northeast flank of the Piceance Creek sub-basin.
The proposed UIC well will be completed over the mapped sandstone intervals in the Mancos
Shale below all currently used drinking water aquifers in the Iles and Mesaverde Formations as
shown in Table A-2. 9-5/8" 36#surface casing will be set in a 12-1/4" hole to 2,670'to isolate any
USDWs above the Mancos Shale. 7" 26#casing will be set in an 8-3/4" hole from 2,670'to 4,700'
in the upper Mancos Shale. The well construction diagram is included as Exhibit C-1.
The well will be perforated over the approximate intervals shown in Table A-2. Geophysical logs
will include SP, resistivity, gamma, density, and MIT logs, and actual perforation intervals will be
determined based on the geophysical logs. Injection testing will be conducted as described in
Attachment B.
11
