Patricia Dowd <pdowdl3@gmail.com> (s? Fri, Aug 27, 11:09 AM E-t
to jeff.graves, erica.crosby, russ.means, michaela.cunningham, kristopherl, bcc: Timmy -
Good morning, Directors Graves and Means and Team Leaders Crosby and Cunningham and Mayor Larsen,
I am writing to you this morning regarding the Cross Mine Company on Caribou Road in Nederland, Colorado.
This mine has been dormant for many years. It is my understanding the mine was sold after Tom Hendricks passed away, was purchased by a Canadian company and is now
referred to as the Nederland Mining Company (see attached photo).
Since this mine is located in the headwaters of the drinking water supply for The City of Boulder, is adjacent to Boulder County Open Space and is located in an area that provides
habitat for wildlife, there is a lot of concern about the new activities occurring at the mine (see attached video).
My questions for the department are:
1 . What type of permitting process did the new owners go through to get the go ahead to resume activities at the mine? Did they apply for permits to re-open the mine?
2. What is the plan for the mine?
3. What mitigation plan will the mine follow?
4. What type of mining will occur? (gold, silver, other)
5. How can the public weigh in on the process? at the local, state, federal levels?
Thank you for any additional information you can provide. Please feel free to call me to discuss my inquiries. My phone number is listed below.
I look forward to hearing from you and your staff soon.
Patricia
