Nature of Activity (Description of the project, include all features):
Permanently re-route mine water discharge into a newly designed storage pond and place waste
rock into the current location of the Revenue Pond.
Project Purpose (Description of the reason or purpose of the project):
The proposed activity includes opening the mine from the existing portal, where water has
historically discharged into the Revenue Pond. As part of the new plan, rerouting the existing mine
water discharge away from the Revenue Pond, 0.21 surface acres in size, is needed since the
placement of waste rock and tailings in the current location of the Revenue Pond is essential. There
is no other practical place to store the waste rock and tailings in any large quantity.
Water will be permanently rerouted to a newly constructed leach field specifically designed to help
reduce zinc from the mine water by precipitating out. The water will then be collected in three
pipes and delivered to a shallow mine water pond. The water will be given additional residence time
before discharging into Sneffels Creek.
Box 6 Reason(s) for discharge into Waters of the United States (Description of why dredged and/or fill
material needs to be placed in Waters of the United States):
Permanent placement of waste rock and tailings into the Revenue Pond.
Proposed discharge of dredge and/or fill material. Indicate total surface area in acres and linear
feet (where appropriate) of the proposed impacts to Waters of the United States, indicate water body type (tidal
wetland, non-tidal wetland, riparian wetland, ephemeral stream/river, intermittent stream/river, perennial stream/river,
pond/lake, vegetated shallows, bay/harbor, lagoon, ocean, etc.), and identify the impact(s) as permanent and/or
temporary for each requested Nationwide Permit':
1 Enter the intended permit number(s).
