i
OURAYSILVER MevEs
Good Housekeeping
The following good housekeeping practices are employed at the site:
Substances stored on-site are stored in a neat, orderly manner in their appropriate
containers.
• Open containers of non-hazardous materials shall be stored under a roof or other
enclosure to prevent mixing with stormwater.
• The Environmental Specialist is responsible for day-to-day site operations and directing
spill prevention, cleanup, and reporting.
Used oil will be stored within a designated above ground storage tank or in covered
areas to prevent mixing of stormwater and oil. Ouray Silver Mines Inc. will encourage
proper waste disposal practices.
• If drip pans are used, they will be cleaned on a regular basis and not allowed to fill with
stormwater.
Spill prevention and response procedures
Spills on the Revenue site are most likely to happen at the 10,000 gallon tank (Cl) or at the
Fluid Storage Connex or at a piece of equipment during maintenance. Containers are kept on
secondary containment with at least 110% of the largest full tank capacity. Details on the spill
prevention and spill cleanup procedures can be found in the SPCC plan kept on site. A spill kit
will be kept on site near each of the area that hydrocarbons and reagent chemicals are stored
in order to facilitate cleanup in case of a spill.
Employee education
Ouray Silver Mines Inc., through the Safety Coordinator, provides annual stormwater
awareness training during Annual Refresher Training (ART), which is designed to educate
current and new employees on appropriate stormwater management, spill response, good
housekeeping and materials storage practices. Best management practice training programs
should also be conducted regarding improving the water quality of stormwater runoff.
Training documentation are maintained by the Environmental Department will be kept in a
central location.
Identification of discharges other than stormwater
There are two permitted non-stormwater discharge points on site, which allow for mine water
emanating from the Revenue portal to be discharged after treatment. Water that enters the
mine water pond will deposit sediment prior to being discharged. Applicable discharge water
standards are tested for and determined by the CDPHE WQCD.
Stormwater Management Plan 11 I P a g e
