Two of the three (i.e.,the 960 Shaft and the Yellow
Rose Shaft)ventilation shaft permit areas are 100' x 100' in size, or 0.23 acres. These two shafts have not
been constructed. Once the 960 shaft and Yellow Rose shaft are complete, secondary escapeways will be
installed in each as well.Waste rock from the shaft excavation will be brought out through the Revenue
tunnel and delivered to the two TSFs.
The third raise bore/ventilation shaft, the Hubb Reed Raise, was completed in 2015 using a raise bore.
This shaft provides ventilation and serves as a secondary escapeway. The current affected lands boundary
around the Hubb Reed Shaft also is 100' x 100'. OSMI is proposing to increase the affected lands
boundary around the Hubb Reed Shaft to approximately 1.16 acres to accommodate the refuge chamber
and other surface features.
The locations of the three shafts are shown on Map C-2. See Map C- lb for the proposed affected lands
boundary for the Hubb Reed Shaft area. The shafts will be installed from within the mine using the same
methods as other raises or by raise bore.
Stripping topsoil from these shafts prior to construction will not be practical as there is very little topsoil
in the area. Should topsoil be encountered at the top of the shafts,it will be stored in a berm around the
shaft exit to reduce surface water runoff inflows into the shaft. A pad will be constructed at the top of
each shaft. This pad will be concrete, 10' x 10' square and 12 inches thick. The shaft openings will be up
to six feet in diameter. The holes will be cased and grouted as necessary to prevent water from potential
upper aquifers from entering the mine workings.
Revenue Mine
Amendment 02 D-6
December 2021
