The intake structures for the interconnects between
Overland Ponds Ponds 2 and 3, Overland Ponds Pond 2 and Treiber A, and Treiber A and B
were designed as a part of this project. These three intake structures have similar designs.
A sluice gate will be mounted on an angled intake structure protected with a trashrack. A
vent pipe will extend from the conduit at the intake structure. The gate stem will extend from
the gate parallel to the face of the embankment to a manual gate operator Iocated on the top
of the embankment. The gate operator will be mounted on a pedestal for ease of use.
Bollards will be placed on either side of the pedestal to prevent accidental damage to the
pedestal or operator.
The gates for the new structures are heavy-duty sluice gates with 20 feet seating and 20 feet
unseating heads. The 20 foot unseating head is provided to prevent the gate from unseating
in the circumstance that the downstream reservoir is operating at a higher hydraulic head than
the upstream reservoir. The gate on the Overland Ponds Pond 2 and Pond 3 interconnect is a
30-inch by 30-inch square sluice gate. The gates for the Pond 2 and Treiber A and Treiber A
and Treiber B are both 48-inch by 48-inch square gates. The gates will be designed to throttle
flow at the design heads.
Hydrology and Hydraulics 111
G EIM.
