PERMIT#:M-2010-048
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS:RAR
INSPECTION DATE: 22 September,2021
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by the Colorado Division of Reclamation,Mining and Safety (The Division),
in response to the surety reduction request(SL03) submitted on 7 September 2021 as per Rule 4.17. The site
was last inspected as part of a release request in September of 2020. The site is comprised of land owned by
Anthony Vick. Darren Janssen, with Castle Rock Construction who operates the pit accompanied me, Robin
Reilley of The Division on the inspection. The weather breezy and the sky was clear.
The Vick Borrow Pit is an I I I permitted site with a total permit area of 10.15 acres, of which 10 acres have
been disturbed. The site has been operated for the removal of sand and gravel for road construction. The site
is surrounded by pastureland and has a post mining land use designation of pastureland. It is located
approximately 9.5 miles southeast of Hugo, Colorado, and accessed from Highway 287.
The site was not active at the time of inspection and has been in reclamation since 2011. The mine
identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule
3.1.12. The sign is located at the entrance of the site. The perimeter has been fenced to clearly delineate the
permit boundary. The permit boundary runs along road and follows along the east, north and west boundaries
to encompass about 10 acres.
No equipment or fuel is stored on site. Vegetation was adequately established throughout the site. Some
bare areas were noted throughout. Small patches of bare ground are expected in the landscape throughout
Colorado and this and area of Lincoln County is no exception. Weed mitigation efforts were noted.
Although still present, it appeared that previous weed mitigation efforts for Kosha and Russian thistle had
improved the vegetation diversity allowing desired vegetation to begin establishing on the side slope tops.
No problems or violations were noted during this inspection. The Division currently a financial warranty of
$25,375.00. The Division finds that the pit can be released. Notice of the Division's decision regarding the release
request will be sent under separate cover.
Photographs taken during the inspection are attached.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to: Robin Reilley at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO 80203. Direct contact can be made by phone
at 303.866.3567 ext 8105 or,via email at robin.reilley@ state.co.us
Page 2 of 4
