Irrigation <br />practices will be at the discretion of the operator, but with the goal of an approximately 70% <br />survival rate of trees and shrubs. To provide habitat variability along the reclaimed benches, <br />additional woody debris and rock structures are to be placed along benches as shown in <br />Exhibit F.6. These structures include: <br />• Free standing snags <br />• Habitat root wad <br />• Brush log piles <br />• Rock piles <br />Item 12.0 Maintenance and Weed Control <br />The primary management practice to be followed after hydroseeding and manual transplanting <br />of trees and shrubs will be yearly monitoring for success of the reclamation effort. This will <br />include observing the stability of all backfilled and sloped areas as well as the sustained growth <br />of grasses, shrubs, and trees. Experience has shown that it takes a minimum of 3 years to get <br />native grasses permanently established. However, once established, a varied and successful <br />native grass mixture will result. During this period, occasional selective herbicide treatment may <br />be necessary where pockets of noxious or undesirable weeds have established themselves. <br />Past experience has shown that if dense pockets of weeds are controlled, native grasses easily <br />out compete weeds if, in the first few years, the grasses are allowed to establish themselves. <br />Areas reclaimed in the North and Central Quarries have shown successful regenerative and <br />sustained growth of all grasses, shrubs, and trees that have been planted. Some trees and <br />shrubs have been replaced but, in general, reclamation has been very successful and will help <br />to support establishment of viable wildlife habitat in areas surrounding the existing water <br />resource storage Reservoir Site II. <br />
