PERMIT #: M2006050 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: RAR <br />INSPECTION DATE: 22 September 2021 <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />This inspection was conducted by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (The Division), <br />in response to the surety release request submitted on 4 August 2021. The site was previously inspected by <br />the Division on 26 April 2019, during a routine inspection. Jason Eager with Lincoln County accompanied <br />me, Robin Reilley, of the DRMS during the inspection. The weather was calm, and the sky was clear. <br />The Andersen Farms Pit is located 14 miles northeast of Genoa, Colorado. Access to the site is off of County <br />Rd 35. The pit is situated on Dugout Creek, which only flows during heavy storm events. When carrying <br />water, the creek flows eastward. The pit is a 110c operation permitted for 7.6 acres for the removal of sand <br />and gravel for county road maintenance and repair. The site is surrounded by rangeland and the post -mining <br />land use is rangeland. A mine sign was observed as required by Rule 3.1.12 <br />The approved mining plan allows for extraction from the creek bed to a maximum depth of 6 feet, and <br />extraction in a pit adjacent to the northern creek bank to a maximum depth of 12 feet. The operator <br />committed to leaving the southern creek bank undisturbed. The approved reclamation plan calls for grading <br />all disturbed slopes to 3H:1V or flatter, replacing topsoil at an average depth of 6 inches on disturbed land <br />outside of the creek bed, and revegetating that land with a rangeland seed mixture. <br />As reclamation has been completed, the site was not active at the time of inspection. All material stockpiles, <br />structures and equipment have been removed. It is unclear from annual reports when reclamation took place. <br />Mining activities appeared to have been restricted to the north side of the creek. The creek bed comprised of <br />fine sand, had little to no vegetation and appeared to not have been mined in some time. Seeding was not <br />required in the mined areas of the river bed. Most vegetation had gone dormant at this time of year. <br />Vegetation was sparse in places on the sandy soils, and no significant areas of weeds were noted at the time <br />of inspection. Mined slopes exhibited a 3H: IV or flatter slope. The pit was shallow at approximately 8 feet <br />deep on average. North facing slopes exhibited some erosional features with vegetation becoming <br />established and minimizing any runoff effects. A berm along the southern edge of the reclaimed pit was left <br />to capture water for livestock. <br />The Division currently holds no financial warranty because it is a county operation. No problems or <br />violations were noted during this inspection.
