Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
FROM: Sarah Brucker, Water Resources Engineer dl5
RE: Golden Mine, Permit No. M-1976-007-UG
Applicant/Operator: Denver Brick Company
Phone Number: (940) 383-7569
Pt. WY2 Section 16, Twp. 3 South, Rng. 70 West, 6th P.M.
Water Division 1, Water District 7, Jefferson County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
0 The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of
groundwater must not occur during or after mining operations.
0 Any stormwater runoff intercepted by this operation that is not diverted or captured in priority
must be released to the stream system within 72 hours; otherwise the operator will need to make
replacements for evaporation.
0 Water is proposed to be used at the site for dust control purposes. The applicant will need to
document that the water was obtained from a legal source and provide such documentation to this
office upon request.
COMMENTS: The Golden Mine is a surface mining operation located on the west side of Highway 93 just
north of the city of Golden. The primary commodity mined at the site is clay for the making of bricks.
The site is proposed to be reclaimed to its previous use of rangeland upon completion of mining.
The subject application is for the conversion of the existing 110c permit to a 112c permit. The
application seeks to add 61.15 acres to the currently permitted 9.0 acres for a total of 70.15 acres within
the permit area. The additional permitted acreage will allow for a consistent stockpile and processing
area for the life of the mine.
Groundwater is not anticipated to be encountered during mining or reclamation operations. Precipitation
and snowmelt pool at the base of the mine face and infiltrate into the ground within 72 hours. Perimeter
berms will direct precipitation around the mined areas and stockpiles to the toe of the hogback. Should
any precipitation intercepted by this operation not infiltrate into the ground or be released to the stream
system within 72 hours, the operator will need to make replacements for evaporation.
Water will be used at the site for dust control purposes and will be applied by a water truck.
Approximately 4,000 gallons of water per day will be required for dust control during processing, which
will occur for a period of approximately three weeks once every 18 months. The source of water for dust
control purposes was not specified. The water must be obtained from a source permitted or decreed for
this use.
The Division of Reclamation Mining Et Safety and/or the applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office
with any questions.
COlO
112 Sher,rnan Street, Rou ni 821, Denver' (_ .
J r r ilia Lrn r 0cluri Gibbs, Ex c.i I.i: )i® (_,i I M: r , L,t Er7 i i.:r:°Li•®:Lam°' O
1876*
